چکیده

To the Editor: The anti-tuberculosis (TB) therapy can cause various drug adverse effects including hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity and skin rash.[1,2] There are some case reports about interstitial lung disease (ILD) such as pneumonitis caused by isoniazid (INH), rifampin (RFP), ethambutol (EMB).[3,4] The causative drug was discontinued permanently or re-administrated after desensitization therapy. But the pulmonary fibrosis induced by short anti-TB medication was very rare. We herein report a case of pulmonary fibrosis due probably to INH, which was developed after 3 weeks of anti-TB treatment.

Plasma concentrations of isoniazid and rifampin are decreased in adult pulmonary tuberculosis patients with diabetes mellitus.

Plasma isoniazid and rifampin concentrations, but not pyrazinamide and ethambutol concentrations, were decreased by about 50% (P < 0.05) in diabetic pulmonary tuberculosis patients. The prevalences of subnormal plasma isoniazid, rifampin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol concentrations were 49% or 100% (P < 0.01), 66% or 100% (P < 0.05), 30% or 50% (P = 0.198), and 32% or 21% (P = 0.742) in nondiab...

Nos2 deficiency enhances carbon tetrachloride-induced liver injury in aged mice

Objective(s): As a multifunctional molecule, NO has different effects on liver injury. The present work aimed to investigate the effects of Nos2 knockout (KO) on acute liver injury in aged mice treated with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). Materials and Methods: The acute liver injury model was produced by CCl4 at 10 ml/kg body weight in 24-...

Beneficial effects of N-acetylcysteine on protease-antiprotease balance in attenuating bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in rats

Objective(s): The role of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) as an anti-oxidant in attenuating bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis has been reported. However, its effect on parenchymal remodeling via regulating the protease-antiprotease balance is not fully defined. Therefore, the present study was designed to explore the possible role of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP), tissue i...

The antifibrotic drug pirfenidone promotes pulmonary cavitation and drug resistance in a mouse model of chronic tuberculosis.

Pirfenidone is a recently approved antifibrotic drug for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Because tuberculosis (TB) is characterized by granulomatous inflammation in conjunction with parenchymal destruction and replacement fibrosis, we sought to determine whether the addition of pirfenidone as an adjunctive, host-directed therapy provides a beneficial effect during antimicr...
